Northwind English Setter Puppies
Typically, we sell a only a few pups from each litter although our primary focus in on developing dogs for our guide business. As we make plans for a litter we will accept a few deposits for a puppy. We accept deposits for choice of gender but not for choice of color (though we do try to accommodate peoples preferences). We prefer our pups go to hunting homes since this is what they have been bred to do. If a puppy, of the specified sex, is not available your deposit will be carried over to the next available litter. You can also put your name on our waiting list if you prefer and we will notify you of the next available litter.
All puppies leaving our kennel will have a certificate of vet inspection. Puppies can go home to their new owner at 8 weeks of age and not before this time period. A detailed listing will be provided of all health care and feeding that has been done for each pup. We encourage you to give us a call so that we can talk with you about the pup and your plans for the pup. If you decide to put a deposit down on a pup you can make payment by check, money order or credit card. Contact us >
Cost, Reserving a Puppy, and Terms
Our pups start at $2500.00+ (cost of the pup, health certificate, microchipped) to reserve a pup plus we require a $500.00 deposit with the remaining balance due when the pup leaves the kennel. Wisconsin sales tax will be charged at time of pickup at the kennel. If you requested additional training, these training fees will be billed above the puppy fee.
Deposits are not refundable but can be transferred to another upcoming litter. We can inform you about the possibility of color variations that may be produced with a litter but we won’t take deposits based on color. Our pups are bred for performance, not color and it is the performance of the dog that counts in the end. After nine weeks the price of the pup will increase by $150 a week. Owner will be required to cover cost additional cost of worming and vaccinations the pup may require before you are able to take ownership. See Our Puppy Guarantee >
Why do we feed our pups Royal Canin Medium Maxi Puppy food?
We feed our pups Royal Canin Maxi Puppy because we have seen excellent results from this product when our pups have been under very stressful situations. Many times when pups or even adult dogs are in stressful situations the stools are the first thing that change. The stools will become very loose or when some dogs are put in high physical demands they will have bloody stools. The Royal Canin Maxi is definitely not the cheapest out there but the quality has been superior. Here at Northwind we import pups from overseas to improve the genetics and diversity of our bloodline. The pups leave the owners kennel, go to the vet then go to the shipper. They may spend 3 – 4 days at the shipper and then they travel to the airport very early in the morning and will be loaded on the plane and make a nine hour flight across the Atlantic. Then once they arrive at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Ill, there is at least 2 hours in customs and processing before I am able to see them and get them out of their crate. This is a very stressful experience for these pups and now they will travel another day with me to their new home in Northern Wisconsin.
Every pup I have had shipped from England has been in excellent health, all their stooles were perfect, and they settled in with no problems. I asked my contact in England what are you feeding these pups and he informed me it was Royal Canin Maxi. I have also acquire another pup but from a different kennel. I found they were feeding the same food. Later on I talked with the two different pet shipping companies that I have worked with and they have said they have had positive results with the Royal Canin Maxi puppy food. Here at Northwind we have had the same results … so why switch. The coats look great and there is not a lot of stool so the digestion of the food is also excellent. This is why we feed Royal Canin Maxi to all of our pups.
Picking up your pup/shipment
Owners who pick up their puppy in Wisconsin are required to pay Wisconsin state sales tax.
Veterinarian Health Check and Certificate for in State or Out of State Travel
Before any pup or even an adult dog can leave our facilities we require a health certificate. No matter if you are traveling in state or out of state sale. We provide each puppy owner with a detailed listing of all vaccinations and worming records for your pup. Starting at 2 weeks of age we worm the pups with Panacur which is a prescription medication used to control and remove roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and certain tapeworms.
At six weeks of age each pup is started on Heartguard Plus. Heartguard Plus is a monthly oral pet med used as a combination heartworm preventive and intestinal wormer.
At 6 weeks of age we vaccinate each pup with a puppy vaccine.
Why we Microchip our puppies
A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is encoded with a unique ID number that will be assigned to your pet. No two microchips have the same ID number. The microchip is placed between your dog’s shoulder blades. Implantation is quick, easy and virtually painless — similar to a vaccine injection. Our own belief is that a collar and tag is not enough. At times the collar breaks or its tag comes off or the name plate on the collar can become illegible. A microchip permanently identifies your pet to help your pet be reunited with you if it is lost or stolen. Pets with a microchip are up to 20xs more likely to be reunited with their owners.
